my fijian roots2Being a native Fijian Indian woman fills me with a genuine sense of pride and pleasure. For those of you that have been to the Fijian Islands, you’ll have hopefully have experienced the genuine warmth and sincerity behind our traditional greeting “Bula”. Fijians are like no other people on earth. Tradition and respect permeates every level of society, irrespective of age or gender.

I’m convinced that being a Fijian Indian woman forms an important part of who I am today. My determination and straight talking, my clarity of thinking and my relentless sense of ambition. I see these characteristics in so many Fijian women – I was just one of the lucky ones that found an avenue to channel all of that positive energy in the “Western” world.

For those of you that have yet to visit Fiji I have just one message. Do it! Fiji is like nowhere you’ll ever have been. The warmth of the Fijian people touches you literally from the moment you land until the time you have to leave. Fortunately, I’m able to go back to Fiji regularly to re-connect with my roots and remind myself of my origins.
