CEO Harcourts Victoria, Sadhana Smiles, takes the crown as Telstra Victorian Business Woman of the Year

telstra awardSadhana Smiles, CEO of real estate group Harcourts Victoria, has been named the 2013 Telstra Victorian Business Woman of the Year, as well as winner of the Private and Corporate Sector Award, at last night’s award ceremony at Crown Palladium.

Amongst an impressive line up of the state’s most driven and influential businesswomen, Sadhana was one of just six women to be shortlisted as a finalist for the Private and Corporate Sector Award, and amongst 20 overall finalists across the entire awards program.

CEO of Harcourts Victoria and 2013 Telstra Victorian Business Woman of the Year, Sadhana Smiles has already made an impressive mark in the Real Estate Industry as one of a handful of senior female executives in the industry, something which she says has not always been a straightforward journey:

“I’m completely honoured to have been awarded 2013 Telstra Victorian Business Woman of the Year at last night’s awards ceremony. Having begun my career as a receptionist, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would be standing on a stage in front of females that I consider incredibly successful and talented, and have them look upon me in the same way as the winner of this coveted award.”

“My award is not just recognition of the work I do for Harcourts but the people I have around me professionally and personally; the drive I have and share with the teams I work with, and the approach I have to business and life – to strive for ultimate results and not stop shy of achieving them,” Ms Smiles adds.

The judges commented ‘As part of Sadhana’s awards submission, she demonstrated a series of ways in which she has influenced the business community, having created freshness in the industry with her progressive, bold and strategic approach to traditional real estate arenas as well as those that are traditionally ‘outside the box’ for Harcourts Victoria and the industry as a whole‘.

Outside of her role as CEO of Harcourts Victoria, Sadhana is the founder of not-for-profit organisation, Links Fiji, which provides medical services for communities in Fiji (Sadhana’s place of birth); is mother to two children and seven adopted Fijian children, has been the recipient of numerous awards including the 2007 PriceWaterhouseCoopers Victorian/Tasmanian Franchise Woman of the Year Award, and earlier this year she launched her first book, “People Power: Did you have them @ hello?”

With previous winners of the Telstra Victorian Business Woman of the Year Award including notbale personaliities such as Carolyn Creswell, Managing Director of Carman’s Fine Foods; Shelley Park, Chief Executive of Southern Health, and Janet Matton, formerly Vice President Operations for IBM Australia and New Zealand, Sadhana’s success is nothing short of a major achievement for her personally – and the real estate industry as a whole.

I can’t believe it was more than a year ago when I won the Telstra Business Woman of the Year award.

I remember walking up to the stage thinking “OMG I cant believe I’ve actually won” and “OMG, I don’t have a prepared speech”… so I was speechless in more ways than one….
